Title
Gladiator helmet
Subject
2/2 views of a gladiator's helmet
Description
This helmet was found in the storage room at the gymnasium in Pompeii among other pieces of armor. This type of helmet would have been worn by a murmillo, or a type of gladiator identified by their distinctive helmets, a shield, and sword. The name murmillo refers to the fish-like fin on their helmets. This particular helmet is richly decorated with scenes from Greek mythology in relief on the bronze.
